Hi there Mama! Considering you clicked on this article, I’m just going to assume you are either expecting or recently gave birth to your little one. Congrats! 🎉 Enjoy all those sweet snuggles. The first few months can be overwhelming sometimes, but just remember you were made for this. In my experience the 0-3 month season is tough, but once you’re through it, it gets so much better. So keep putting one foot in front of the other and I promise you’re going to make it. Sometimes just surviving is doing your best, and that’s 100% ok! Keep on reading to find out my top 5 baby items I used to survive those first few months.
Essential Baby Items That Helped Me Survive the First Few Months
Sound Machines
My little one would calm down almost immediately when we would turn on her sound machine. We used them so much and would joke that it was the soundtrack to our lives 🤪.
Yogasleep Rohm
The Yogasleep Rohm portable sound machine is what we started with. It came everywhere with us and we would use it for sleeping at night as well. After a bit we realized how nice is would be to have one that just stayed in our room so we didn’t have to worry about the portable one being charged enough to last through the night.
Hatch Restore
I found a great deal on a Hatch Restore. We fell in love with it! The rain noise is so calming, and the bird chirp & sunrise alarm feature are a nice relaxing way to wake up instead of the traditional beeping.
Hatch Rest
When Em was ready to transition to her room, I bought her the Hatch Rest so we could keep the Restore in our room. 😂 The Restore is more for adults anyway, and the Rest is designed for babies/kids.
Portable Baby Bouncer Seat
A bouncer seat was one of the only places Em would let me put her down. We have a small house so I needed things that would be compact. Especially for when we were done using it and needed to store it for the next baby.
Ingenuity Happy Belly Rock-to-Bounce seat
I had the older version of this Ingenuity Happy Belly Rock-to-Bounce seat . We loved it. It folds pretty flat which made it perfect for our small house. The toys are a little blah, so we would attach other toys to it to make it more exciting for Em.
Maxi-Cosi Kori 2-In-1 Rocker
The Maxi-Cosi Kori 2-In-1 Rocker is a really aesthetically pleasing bouncer and also folds relatively flat.
BabyBjörn Bouncer
If you have more space, everyone seems to think the BabyBjörn Bouncer is one of the best baby bouncer seats.
Cotton Muslin Baby Burp Cloths
You know, I thought I would be fine with 5 burp cloths… boy was I wrong! I was doing laundry all the time! I would recommend having somewhere between 10-15. My favorite ones are the cotton muslin ones because they are very absorbent and dry relatively quickly. I bought these ones off of Amazon and LOVED them.
Baby Carriers
When your little bundle is first born they want to be close to you and you want to hold them all the time. I mean, they were literally attached to you for 9-ish months. A great way to have them close but free up your hands is to use a baby carrier. I had an Ergobaby carrier, an Ergobaby wrap carrier, and a Boba baby wrap carrier. I really liked all of them but for different purposes.
Ergobaby carrier
This one is a great all around baby carrier. I didn’t have the newborn insert and I regret not buying it. I know I would have used it so much more at the beginning because it is so comfortable to wear and quick to put on. Thankfully it’s good to use until they are 45 lbs. so I still have lots of time to use it.
Ergobaby wrap carrier
The one I had was like a light t-shirt material and very supportive of the baby. My only pet peeve about it was my shoulders eventually got tired. But, when they’re small I would 10/10 recommend. It was still worth it.
Boba wrap
This one is made of a thicker, very stretchy material, almost like a sweatshirt. This one was much more comfortable to wear for long periods but would probably be too hot in the summer and wasn’t as supportive as the Ergobaby wrap. But, once again, I still loved it. I just chose which baby carrier to use according to what I was going to be doing.
Black and White Flip Book Toy
Em loved this black and white flip book for SO long! The pages crinkle, it has both color and black and white pages, a teether, and a mirror. It stands up by itself so it is perfect to set down beside them while they’re on the floor or doing tummy time. I think it’s the perfect toy for newborns. They have quite a few themes to choose from so I will link them below.
Savannah Themed Soft Crinkle Tummy Time Book
Koala Themed Soft Crinkle Tummy Time Book(This is the one we had)
Woodland and Safari Animal Themed Tummy Time Book
I just stumbled on this set, it’s not the same as what’s above but it is too cute not to share! It has a little black and white blanket, block, and soft “book”. I totally would have put this on my registry if I had seen it back then.
